SE4AI Issues on Designing a Social Media Agent: Agile Use Case Design for Behavioral Game Theory

  • Francisco S. Marcondes
  • José João Almeida
  • Paulo Novais

This paper is the result of an endeavor of specifying a social media agent through Use Case 2. 0 (the “agile Use Case”). That what was expected to be a straightforward specification task revealed issues that subverts a critical foundation of the Use Case conception, nonexistent use-case between the SuD and the actor, yielding to the extensions proposed in this paper.

A Multi-Agent System for Automated Machine Learning

  • Bruno Fernandes

Machine Learning (ML) focuses on giving machines the ability to forecast, predict, or classify without being explicitly programmed to do so. To achieve such goals, large amounts of data are used to conceive models that can adapt to unseen data and to new scenarios. However, applying ML models to real-world business domains is a resource-intensive and time-consuming effort. Automated machine learning (AutoML) emerged as a way to ease such processes. With this in mind, this study introduces a multi-agent system (MAS) that autonomously go through the entire ML pipeline, with different entities being responsible for the data collection process, for preprocessing the data, and for deploying the best candidate ML model. The conceived MAS is currently implemented in a real-world setting, addressing important societal challenges raised by big urban centers. The obtained results show that this solution proved to be beneficial not only for the data collection and pre-processing tasks, but also for the automated execution of ML models.

The elderly population is increasing and the response of the society was to provide them with services directed to them to cope with their needs. One of the oldest solutions is the retirement home, providing housing and permanent assistance for the elderly. Furthermore, most of the retirement homes are inhabited by multiple elderly people, thus creating a community of people who are somewhat related in age and medical issues. The ambient assisted living (AAL) area tries to solve some of the elderly issues by producing technological products, some of them dedicated to elderly homes. One of the identified problem is that elderly people are sometimes discontent about the activities that consume most of their day promoted by the retirement home social workers. The work presented in this paper attempts to improve how these activities are scheduled taking into account the elderlies’ emotional response to these activities. The aim is to maximize the group happiness by promoting the activities the group likes, minding if they are bored due to activities repetition. In this sense, this paper presents an extension of the Cognitive Life Assistant platform incorporating a social emotional model. The proposed system has been modelled as a free time activity manager which is in charge of suggesting activities to the social workers.

Abstract The iGenda framework is a cognitive assistant that helps care-receivers and caregivers in the management of their agendas. One of the problems detected in systems of this kind is the lack of user engagement. This engagement can be improved through the application of persuasion techniques in order to convince users to act in a specific way. According to this, this paper presents a new architecture that will allow the system to select and recommend activities that potentially best suits to the users’ interests based on argumentation techniques.

Abstract This paper proposes a model for group formation in elderly communities using Coalition Structure Generation Problem implemented by Genetic Algorithms. The model parameters are physical requirements, preferences and social relationships, being the model able to learn from each execution and improve the future configurations. The results show near-optimal solutions to all proposed scenarios, beating greatly the computational time of CPLEX.

In this work it is addressed the problem of knowledge evaluation in a VirtualECare Group Decision Supporting System (GDSS), in terms of an Multi-valued Extended Logic Programming language, which is aimed at sustaining online healthcare services. Indeed, reasoning with incomplete and uncertain knowledge have to be dealt with, due to the particular nature of the healthcare services, where the awful consequences of bad decisions, or lack of timely ones, demand for a responsible answer.

Contracting agents: legal personality and representation

  • Francisco Andrade

Abstract The combined use of computers and telecommunications and the latest evolution in the field of Artificial Intelligence brought along new ways of contracting and of expressing will and declarations. The question is, how far we can go in considering computer intelligence and autonomy, how can we legally deal with a new form of electronic behaviour capable of autonomous action? In the field of contracting, through Intelligent Electronic Agents, there is an imperious need of analysing the question of expression of consent, and two main possibilities have been proposed: considering electronic devices as mere machines or tools, or considering electronic devices as legal persons. Another possibility that has been frequently mentioned consists in the application of the rules of agency to electronic transactions. Meanwhile, the question remains: would it possible, under a Civil Law framework, to apply the notions of “legal personhood” and “representation” to electronic agents? It is obvious that existing legal norms are not fit for such an endeavouring challenge. Yet, the virtual world exists and it requires a new but realistic legal approach on software agents, in order to enhance the use of electronic commerce in a global world.
