Abstract This paper proposes a model for group formation in elderly communities using Coalition Structure Generation Problem implemented by Genetic Algorithms. The model parameters are physical requirements, preferences and social relationships, being the model able to learn from each execution and improve the future configurations. The results show near-optimal solutions to all proposed scenarios, beating greatly the computational time of CPLEX.

Analysing Incentive Strategies to Promote Participation in Crowdsourcing Systems

Abstract In this paper, we define two strategies for crowdsourcing systems to encourage users to participate at a cost that is close to the optimal cost for the system. In the scenario considered, the system has temporal constraints and potential participants have dynamic behaviors related to the expected rewards (i. e. , users’ expected rewards in exchange of their contributions change over time). We propose and evaluate two types of strategies that promote participation of users through monetary rewards that can change as time passes in order to adapt them to the population dynamic behaviors.

Utility-Based Mechanism for Structural Self-Organization in Service-Oriented MAS

Structural relations established among agents influence the performance of decentralized service discovery process in multiagent systems. Moreover, distributed systems should be able to adapt their structural relations to changes in environmental conditions. In this article, we present a service-oriented multiagent systems, where agents initially self-organize their structural relations based on the similarity of their services. During the service discovery process, agents integrate a mechanism that facilitates the self-organization of their structural relations to adapt the structure of the system to the service demand. This mechanism facilitates the task of decentralized service discovery and improves its performance. Each agent has local knowledge about its direct neighbors and the queries received during discovery processes. With this information, an agent is able to analyze its structural relations and decide when it is more appropriate to modify its direct neighbors and select the most suitable acquaintances to replace them. The experimental evaluation shows how this self-organization mechanism improves the overall performance of the service discovery process in the system when the service demand changes.

Emergence of Cooperation through Structural Changes and Incentives in Service-Oriented MAS

In distributed environments where entities only have a partial view of the system collaboration plays a key issue. In the case of decentralized service discovery in Service-Oriented MAS (SOMAS), agents only know about the services they provide and their direct neighbors. Therefore, they need the collaboration of their neighbors in order to locate the required services. However, collaboration is not always present in open and distributed systems. Noncollaborating agents pursuing their own goals could reject forwarding queries from other agents; therefore, the efficiency of the decentralized service discovery could be seriously damaged. In this paper we propose the combination of structural changes and incentives based on utility in order to promote the collaboration in the service discovery process.

Enhancing Decentralized Service Discovery through Structural Self-Organization

The efficiency of service discovery in distributed systems relies on the collaboration of the agents and the structure of the relations established among them. Structural relations cannot be static, agents should be able to adapt their links as the domain conditions and their interests change. This self-organization considerably improves the performance of the service discovery process. We present a self-organization mechanism that facilitates the task of decentralized service discovery and improves its efficiency in dynamic environments. Each agent has local knowledge about their neighbors and the queries received during the discovery process. With this information, each agent is able to decide when it is more appropriate to modify its structural relations with its direct neighbors and what the most suitable acquaintances to replace them are.
